I LOOOOVED Hubble 3D. The best shot was diving into the heart of the Virgo Nebulae and seeing the birth of stars..."the star nursery" I think Leo called it. I wanted more of those sorts of shots!!
Harry Potter!  Loved it.

Transformers 3D - Honestly one of the most complex animated sequences of all time. But DAMN Shockwave was COOL!!!

HARRY POTTER:

it's pretty amazing!

I am studying "evil characters" for the feature/kids/fantasy I am writing and I have to say the final epsisode of HP took Professor Snape's character to new heights.  They built him up throughout the entire series to be "is he a good guy or bad guy, what is his alliance??" -- and you get a complete closure and a THE icing-on-the-cake back story on his character.  They created an epic braveheartish ending too.

The make-out sessions were a little contrived.  The conversion worked well and in my opinion is a necessity when movies are 90% CG.

So... For my favorite observation:

For about a decade now HP fans have been reading the books and watching the films.  The longest run of any series EVER (esp w the same actors).  Their time stamp trumps Star Wars, James Bond, Narnia, (?? please feel free to add to this list of epic franchise films)....   My point is this.  I felt a sense of achievement, not only for the 3D community but also for good storytelling for the masses.   Even if they try to bring it back like Star Wars, it will never be the OGF (original gangster film series) - so go see it in a RealD theater! The Graumans Chinese is a great venue. xoxo

I must say, if you are studying the villain character I have 2 suggestions. 1 - READ (or at least listen to via audiobook) the HP series! The movies are a credit to Hollywood's abilities of adapting books, but are most appreciated if one has read the originals. FURTHERMORE Snape and HP in particular are extremely poignant examples of this effect. Snape is a brilliantly developed and revealed character (I havent yet gotten to see HP7.2 but I have  *"read" the books) but he is soooooo much more of a rich and in depth web of brilliance with the entire gorgeous tapestry of the series behind it.

and 2. Read some Dostoyevski (I know I go on and on and on and on about him *haha but he is amazing at character development especially the psycology behind and inner dialogue of the villian!

(NOTE* By read I mean Listened to the audio books read by Jim Dale.  Who is an amazingly talented vocal artist and thespian from the BBC. The characters in movie and voices in this audio series are nearly indistinguishable! Un-BE_LIEVE_able!!)

Keep writing most of all!!

Captain America:

Conversion wasn't bad although I thought some stuff was really jumping around in space.  ROundness was nice and not too many roto layer artifacts.  Chris Evans is definitely a hottie in Depth!! THey actually got me to flinch one of the times they used the shield throwing towards the camera gag! (This was corroborated by several other stereo experts! cool!!) But my favorite part (I must admit) was the title sequence at the end.  Very cool use of cell art layers in the style of WWII poster and propaganda art. LOVE IT!!

My favorite part was the title sequence at the end as well!

Funny, I actually just finished testing Hubble 3D in our 4ft TOOB Earth dome screen and it looked fantastic! I might end up using Hubble 3D for our in office demos now.

I saw Prometheus on Sunday.  There is a moment with a holographic map of the universe that looks great in 3D. Like smoke in 3-D you really need the 3-D to see the depths of what's happening. I lifted my glasses during the piece and it really was remarkably different in 2-D.

I thought the 3D in Prometheus looked great! Even subtle things like the depth of their space helmets was very effective.
