3D Basics

Ancient Greece saw the rise of Art through their attempts to recreate the world they saw around them. It began with drawing human figures, and evolved into complex scenes or stories that would decorate building facades and pottery.  As their culture developed, they began depicting the world in more complex ways; from increasingly intricate designs to advanced postures of the human form in motion. Finally they began to lift the figure from the flat surface by carving in relief or even building up forms, and the word “Stereo” was first used to describe 3 Dimensional figures. “Stereo” meant solid and was used to describe the volumetric nature of sculpture. With time this concept has expanded to encompasses “in depth experiences” throughout media. From Stereo Sound to Stereo Visuals, advanced man craves a more immersive stimulus.

Digital media has allowed for the advancement of quality in immersive content. Over-sampling and increasingly expansive arrays of speakers has brought sound recording and playback to unbelievable realistic and rich levels. Digital imaging, likewise, has given us more articulate and flexible tools for capturing reality, and endows Stereoscopic 3D Cinema with the highly precise science it needs to accurately replicate the native, human perspective of two-eyed vision.
